The Session/Barry Stephenson's Pocket
The Session is a modern jazz quintet comprised of some of the most promising young musicians on the scene. Its members play or have played in many of the great jazz groups of the city, including the Ellis Marsalis Quartet, Germain Bazzle's group and the Jason Marsalis Vibraphone Quartet.
'Barry Stephenson's Pocket', is an exciting new project of Barry Stephenson, a current post graduate student at UNO who already plays bass for the likes of Jeremy Davenport and Glen David Andrews. His music is an original blend of genres including jazz, funk, soul and hip-hop.
New Orleans, LA - Two of the New Orleans’ most promising young modern jazz groups are putting on a one night only event at Cafe Istanbul inside the newly opened Healing Center on St Claude Avenue.
The first band performing is ‘Barry Stephenson’s Pocket’; Barry Stephenson is a graduate student at UNO who plays bass for Jeremy Davenport and Glen David Andrews among others. His band includes the vibraphonist James Westfall, an alum of the Monk institute, and Michael Watson, trombonist for Irvin Mayfield.
The second band performing is ‘The Session’, a jazz quintet whose members include Darrian Douglas (Ellis Marsalis, Germaine Bazzle) on drums, Stephen Lands (Wes Anderson) on trumpet and Jason Weaver (Delfeayo Marsalis, Jason Marsalis) on bass.
