The Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp was created in 1995 to address and augment the lack of music and arts education in schools. The program is offered to young music students between the ages of 10 and 21 years old. The curriculum includes three weeks of intense instruction in instrumental and vocal improvisation, large and small ensembles, master classes, music composition, jazz history and swing dance.
Jazz Camp convenes the first three weeks of July at Loyola University New Orleans and is presented by the New Orleans Arts and Cultural Host Committee a 501c3 organization dedicated to honoring Jazz in its birthplace; and fostering great appreciation of Jazz through educational programs and services.
NOACHC’s mission encompasses transforming the lives of children by raising their self-esteem, instilling skills that encourage leadership, teamwork, problem solving, good citizenship and respect for culture at the highest level.
