La Nana (The Maid)
This is a first for our Spanish Movie Night: a film from Chile! Thank you to the people on FB who suggested some titles to add to our selection of Spanish speaking films... We present to you La Nana (The Maid), a movie that was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2010.
Chilean director Sebastián Silva used his experience with Raquel and Lucy, his family’s domestic servants, as the backbone for his film, which he co-wrote with Pedro Peirano.
Both women saw the film and this is what the director said about their reactions: “Lucy was crying nonstop when she first saw the film, (...) she absorbed the political and social implications of the film. Raquel, however, saw the surface of it. They were the first two people who saw the film, and Raquel was laughing and Lucy was crying.”
Come watch this film and let us know your thoughts on what being a house maid means to those involved in that particular household.
