Cliff Hines is a progressive jazz guitar player who hails from New Orleans. His compositions have been described as “Lush and Eloquent” –Aaron Lafont, Offbeat Magazine “A fresh blend of jazz, pop and a number of international influences” –Musicfromlastnight.com “Their unique brand of jazz fusion sounds less like the sounds of the 70′s and more like the art rock of the 00′s.” – Sound Magazine “sonic experimentation that is youthful and fresh” –Michael Diamond, Ariel H. He was even quoted alongside local drumming legend Shannon Powell, in a New York Times article about the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and its effect on the local economy. His quintet features vocalist Sasha Masakowski, drummer Paul Thibodeaux, bassist Jasen Weaver, and pianist Andrew McGowan. He has performed all over New Orleans and has also played as far as New York City and Harvard University (Cambridge, MA). In addition to playing South by Southwest (Austin, TX) in 2011 under his own name, he has performed as a sideman at the Marciac Jazz Festival (Marciac, France) in 2007 (Headliners that year included Wayne Shorter and John Zorn), and multiple years at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. They were also heavily featured in the upcoming documentary “One Note at a Time” about the New Orleans Musicians Clinic alongside such performers as Charmaine Neville and Donald Harrison. Cliff is also featured on the upcoming single “And Her Too” from Virgin Records artists “Speakers”. His first record “Like Mystics of Old” was released in 2009, and his second, “Traveler” (feat. New Orleans legends James Singleton, Grammy-Nominated Percussionist Bill Summers, Kent Jordan, and more) is coming out early next year.
